Across the nation, there has been an unusual spike in tomato prices, with some regions seeing prices as high as Rs700 per kilogram.
Information that surfaced in Karachi on Sunday claims that tomatoes are now more costly than poultry. Although the official rate is Rs322, they are being sold for between Rs500 and Rs700 per kilogram in different sections of the city.
The cost of tomatoes has increased to Rs 650 per kilogram in Federal B Area, while they are selling for Rs 700 in Gulshan-e-Iqbal and Burns Road.
Tomatoes in Sakrand, a tehsil of Shaheed Benazirabad, are selling for Rs600 per kilogram, the highest price of the year. Residents’ financial burden has increased as a result of the steep increase.
Meanwhile, because of administrative flaws, store owners in Faisalabad have persisted in charging exorbitant prices. The price of the peas and tomatoes is Rs 500 per kilogram.
Vegetable costs have skyrocketed in Peshawar. Onions have also surpassed Rs100 per kilogram, and tomatoes have surpassed the fourth-century barrier. Okra, round gourds, bottle gourds, ridge gourds, and other vegetables are not available for less than Rs150 per kilogram.
In Quetta, peas cost Rs400 per kilogram, while tomatoes cost Rs300. There has also been an increase in the cost of other veggies in the city.
