Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair has been removed from consideration for Donald Trump’s proposed “board of peace” for Gaza after several Arab and Muslim countries raised strong objections, according to people familiar with the talks.

This decision marks an important change in Trump’s 20-point peace plan aimed at ending the war between Israel and Hamas.

When Trump first shared the plan in September, Blair was the only publicly named member and was praised by Trump as a “very good man.” Blair also welcomed the idea, calling it “bold and intelligent” and showing willingness to take part.

However, many Arab and Muslim countries opposed Blair’s inclusion because of his strong support for the 2003 Iraq war. Diplomats were also concerned that Palestinians might be pushed aside in the proposed leadership setup for Gaza.

Blair’s office did not comment on the reports. But a close ally rejected claims that Blair was “rejected,” saying that the board is meant only for current world leaders, which automatically makes Blair ineligible as a former prime minister.

According to this source, Blair is expected to play a key role on a smaller executive committee, which is likely to include Jared Kushner, Trump adviser Steve Witkoff, and senior Arab and Western officials.

Trump had earlier hinted that Blair’s nomination might face resistance, saying he wanted to ensure Blair was “acceptable to everybody.”

Despite these developments, Blair is still expected to remain involved in discussions about Gaza’s future. He has been working on Gaza-related plans for over a year through the Tony Blair Institute.

Trump’s peace plan has made little progress so far. Gaza remains divided between Hamas and Israeli forces, and no new appointments to the proposed board have been announced yet.
