A massive landslide caused by a cloudburst in the Naran area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa left more than 60 jeeps transporting visitors stranded on the way to Saiful Muluk Lake.
The event happened late Friday after heavy rains in the Kaghan Valley’s upper regions.
A quick cloudburst, officials said, caused dirt and debris to flow over the narrow mountain route, blocking access and trapping hundreds of vehicles.
Immediately, the Kaghan Development Authority (KDA) began rescue efforts. Within a few hours, the road was cleared thanks to the heavy machinery that KDA’s Engineering One team sent to the scene.
A KDA representative verified that all stranded visitors and more than 60 jeeps had been successfully evacuated.
Families with women and children were among those stuck as they tried to escape the lake, according to witnesses. Social media footage showed tourists waiting for assistance in difficult weather conditions as lengthy lines of jeeps were stopped by rubble.
