US President Donald Trump on Sunday said that a deal to secure the release of hostages held by Hamas in Gaza could be reached soon. Speaking to reporters after returning to Washington from New York, Trump said he had been discussing the matter during his flight.
“We’re working on a solution that may be very good,” Trump said, adding that details would be shared soon. He stressed that the goal is to end the conflict and bring the hostages back.
Earlier in the day, Trump issued what he called his “last warning” to Hamas, urging the group to accept his terms for an agreement. “The Israelis have accepted my Terms. It is time for Hamas to accept as well,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform. He added, “I have warned Hamas about the consequences of not accepting. This is my last warning; there will not be another one.”
Hamas confirmed that it received proposals from the United States through mediators and said it was reviewing them. The group stated it is open to negotiations for the release of all hostages if there is a clear announcement of an end to the war and a complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.
Trump expressed confidence that all hostages could be freed, while acknowledging that some may have died. “I think we’re going to get them all,” he said, adding that efforts would also be made to return the bodies of those who may no longer be alive.
On Saturday, Israeli media reported that Trump presented a new ceasefire plan to Hamas. According to the proposal, Hamas would release all 48 remaining hostages on the first day of the truce in exchange for thousands of Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails. The plan also includes talks on permanently ending the war during the ceasefire period.
An Israeli official said that Israel is “seriously considering” Trump’s proposal but gave no further details.
The possible deal comes as international pressure grows for a ceasefire and a resolution to the conflict in Gaza.
