Former US President Donald Trump has criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin after Russia’s biggest air attack on Ukraine since the war started in 2022. Speaking from New Jersey, Trump called Putin “absolutely crazy” on his social media and said he does not like the recent attacks that killed at least 12 people and hurt many others.

Russia launched over 360 drones and missiles targeting several Ukrainian cities, making it the deadliest night since the war began. Air raid sirens sounded in many areas, including Kharkiv, where some people, including a child, were injured.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky said the US has been too quiet about Russia’s attacks and asked America to put more sanctions on Russia. He warned that if no strong action is taken, Putin will continue his attacks.

Trump’s recent words are different from before, when he was more neutral about Putin. Trump said, “I’ve known him a long time and got along with him, but now he’s sending rockets to cities and killing people, and I don’t like it.” When asked about new sanctions on Russia, Trump said they are “absolutely” being considered, but no new sanctions have been announced yet.

Trump also warned that if Putin tries to take all of Ukraine, it could lead to Russia’s downfall. But he also blamed Zelensky, saying the Ukrainian leader makes things worse. “Everything he says causes problems,” Trump said.

Peace talks between Ukraine and Russia are still unclear. European countries are planning new sanctions on Russia, and the US may stop peace talks if no progress is made soon.

This happened shortly after a phone call between Trump and Putin, where they talked about a ceasefire plan. Trump said the call went “very well” and hopes talks will start soon.

Ukraine agreed to a 30-day ceasefire, but Russia is cautious. Putin said Russia is willing to work on a peace deal, but Ukraine and other countries think it’s just a delay.

The last direct talks between Ukraine and Russia were in Istanbul on May 16, 2025, with little success except for a prisoner exchange. The war, now in its third year, continues with no clear end.
