U.S. President Donald Trump has accused Chinese President Xi Jinping of teaming up with Russia’s Vladimir Putin and North Korea’s Kim Jong Un against the United States. His remarks followed Beijing’s largest-ever Victory Day parade on Wednesday, staged in Tiananmen Square to mark 80 years since Japan’s surrender in World War II.
Writing on his Truth Social platform, Trump said: “Please give my warmest regards to Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un as you conspire against the United States of America.” The three leaders were seen together at the event, which was attended by 26 heads of state and widely interpreted as a symbolic challenge to the West.
Trump also highlighted America’s sacrifices in the war, reminding followers: “Many Americans died in China’s quest for Victory and Glory. I hope they are rightfully honored and remembered for their bravery and sacrifice.”
In an interview with the BBC, Trump dismissed the idea of an anti-U.S. coalition, insisting that China remains dependent on Washington. “China needs us much more than we need them,” he said, while describing his relationship with Xi as “very good.”
He also downplayed fears of a new alliance between Moscow and Beijing, arguing that U.S. military superiority would deter any aggression. “America has the most powerful military forces in the world… they would never use their military forces against us,” he said in a radio interview.
Still, Trump admitted to being “very disappointed” in Putin, after their Alaska meeting last month failed to produce a peace plan for Ukraine. “We will be doing something to help people live in Ukraine,” he added, without giving details.
China has avoided condemning Russia’s invasion and has been accused by Western governments of supporting Moscow indirectly through energy deals and sales of dual-use goods. At the same time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that Russia is moving more troops to the frontline, saying Putin “refuses to be forced into peace.”
