According to the Met Office, yesterday, July 5, Chilas and Bunji set a new extreme maximum temperature record that exceeded the previous one in the following ways:
At Chilas, the highest recorded temperature on July 5th was 48.5°C. On July 17, 1997, it reached its previous Historical Extreme Maximum Record of 47.7°C.
At Bunji, the highest recorded temperature on July 5th was 46.1°C. On July 12, 1971, 45.6 °C was the previous Historical Extreme Maximum Record.
Throughout the following week, these sustained high temperatures over the north may hasten the melting of snow and glaciers, causing GLOF and flash floods in susceptible valleys and nearby locations.
