Both infected children under five; virus spread under investigation
ISLAMABAD: Two more polio cases have been confirmed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), raising Pakistan’s total polio count to 10 for the year so far, according to the National Institute of Health (NIH).
The latest infections were reported in Lakki Marwat and Bannu districts, with both cases involving children under the age of five. The presence of the wild poliovirus was confirmed through laboratory testing at the NIH in Islamabad.
These new cases bring KP’s 2025 polio count to five, highlighting the region as a continuing hotspot in Pakistan’s fight against the disease.Health officials have launched investigations to verify the children’s vaccination status and identify the source of infection, aiming to prevent further spread.
