Two Waste Disposal Sites Finalized in Islamabad by CDA
ISLAMABAD, January 18, 2023- Capital Development Authority(CDA) has finalized two waste disposal sites in Islamabad.
According to reports, it was decided that the sanitation directorate would inform its consultant, Urban Unit Team, about the two places. According to the sources, the directorate will provide information on the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and clearance certificates for the construction sites at Kuri and Dhoke Jando adjacent to Nicholson’s Monument. A group led by Deputy Director General (DDG) Planning Zafar Iqbal, along with DDG Sanitation Rafia Haider, Director Sanitation Malik Atta, Director Regional Planning Faraz Malik, and others, examined a place recently. The board will be briefed on seven possible locations, with a focus on the two indicated. Notably, the Islamabad High Court will also hear a case the following month, and the CDA must produce a response regarding its attempts to establish a suitable dump site in the capital.

Currently, the CDA disposes of solid waste at a site owned by the Rawalpindi Waste Management Company in Losar, Chak Beli Khan in Rawalpindi. Before relocating the temporary landfill to H-16, the civic group had a temporary waste dump site in the residential sector of I-12.
The court ordered the municipal organization to move away from residential areas. In addition, the court directed the CDA to ensure that, beginning April 10, 2022, no garbage will be placed on temporary sites in residential areas of Islamabad. The CDA then temporarily relocated to the Chak Beli region, where the municipal group currently intends to create a dump site.
