U Microfinance Bank, a wholly owned subsidiary of Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited under the e& Group, has successfully gone live with the Temenos core banking platform, marking a major step in its digital transformation journey.

The implementation, delivered in collaboration with Systems Limited, includes payments, digital channels, financial crime systems, and data platforms, all deployed on Red Hat OpenShift. This unified system is designed to create a modern, real-time, and scalable banking environment.

The transformation enables seamless operations across more than 220 branches and digital channels, supporting both Islamic and conventional banking products. It also introduces real-time processing across key functions such as lending, compliance, treasury, and risk management.

With the new platform, U Bank aims to accelerate product launches, streamline loan processing, and enhance anti-money laundering (AML) and risk monitoring capabilities. Customers are also expected to benefit from improved mobile banking services and digital onboarding experiences.

CEO Tooran Asif said the upgrade strengthens the bank’s technology foundation and positions it to deliver innovative financial services more efficiently. CTO Muhammad Umar Ilyas described the initiative as one of the most complex transformations undertaken by the bank, highlighting its importance in expanding financial access across Pakistan.

Representatives from Systems Limited and Temenos also emphasized the project’s role in building a scalable and future-ready banking ecosystem, supporting long-term growth and digital financial inclusion.

The move reflects a broader shift in Pakistan’s banking sector toward modern, technology-driven platforms aimed at improving efficiency, compliance, and customer experience.
