The United States has introduced one of its most advanced military machines yet—Fury, an unmanned fighter jet powered by artificial intelligence, made by the defense company Anduril Industries.

Fury can fly alone or work together with manned jets like the F-35 and the upcoming F-47. It is part of the U.S. Air Force’s new program called Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA).

This jet uses Anduril’s smart AI system called Lattice, which helps it understand what is happening on the battlefield, find enemies, avoid danger, and complete missions accurately. Unlike normal fighter jets, Fury has no cockpit or pilot. Instead, operators give high-level commands, like choosing targets and missions, and the AI controls the flying and fighting.

Fury uses a regular jet engine, which makes it cheaper to build—costing about $25 to $30 million each, much less than the $400 million F-35 jets. Its parts can be changed easily, so weapons or sensors can be swapped depending on the mission.

Testing on the ground started in May 2025, and flight tests are planned for this summer. The Air Force wants to use jets like Fury before the end of this decade. Anduril is competing with another company, General Atomics, and the final choice will be made in 2026.

The Pentagon already gave Anduril a $642 million contract for drone defense systems, showing trust in the company. But to use Fury fully in battles, the military will also need to change how it fights, not just rely on new technology.
