The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has recorded its highest-ever May temperature since 2003, reaching a scorching 50.4°C, according to the National Center of Meteorology (NCM).
The record-breaking temperature was recorded on Friday at 2:30 PM in Al Shawamekh, Abu Dhabi, the NCM confirmed in a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
“This is the highest temperature ever recorded in May since we began keeping records in 2003,” an NCM official told AFP.
This new record breaks the previous high of 50.2°C, which was recorded in May 2009.
The extreme heat serves as a reminder of rising temperatures in the region, and officials are urging residents to take precautions during hot weather.
