The United States has temporarily suspended operations at its Consulate General in Peshawar starting March 2, citing security concerns and ongoing disruptions.
In an official notice, US authorities said the consulate in Peshawar will remain closed until further notice. All routine and emergency consular services for American citizens will now be handled by the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad.
The decision comes amid heightened security conditions and protest activity reported in several parts of the country. US government personnel across Pakistan have been instructed to limit their movements as a precaution.
While the Peshawar consulate has halted all operations, the US Embassy in Islamabad continues to function and provide consular services. However, no timeline has been announced for when services in Peshawar will resume.
US citizens currently in Pakistan have been advised to closely monitor local media, avoid large gatherings, stay aware of their surroundings, and ensure their Smart Traveler Enrollment Program registration is up to date.
