The Directorate General of Customs Valuation Karachi has significantly reduced customs values for the import of old and used computers, laptops, printers, and their accessories from all countries. The decision comes following the issuance of a new valuation ruling, numbered 2000 of 2025, aimed at facilitating importers and aligning customs values with current market realities.
According to the new ruling, the downward revision in customs values applies to all origins and covers a wide range of used IT equipment. This adjustment follows a detailed review and analysis of imported data, current market trends, and the observed decline in the market prices of older models and generations of these products. The exercise was conducted under sections 25 and 25A of the Customs Act 1969, ensuring compliance with legal standards while considering prevailing market dynamics.

Stakeholders from the import industry actively participated in the process, highlighting that the values of used computers, laptops, printers, and related accessories had dropped considerably over time. They advocated for a revision to better reflect actual transaction values. The customs authorities responded by revising the applicable values, which will now serve as the basis for the assessment of duties and taxes on these goods.
This change is expected to make the import of old and used IT equipment more affordable, encourage legitimate imports, and support the local market by offering more competitively priced products. The move is seen as a positive step towards ensuring that customs valuations are realistic and reflective of market conditions, benefiting both importers and consumers.
