Second Lady Usha Vance and Vice President JD Vance have announced that they are expecting their fourth child, a baby boy, later this summer.

The couple shared the news on social media on January 20, saying they are excited as they prepare to welcome the newest member of their family. In a joint statement, they said Usha and the baby are doing well and that the family is looking forward to the arrival in late July.

The Vances already have three children, Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel, who have frequently accompanied them on both domestic and international trips.

With this announcement, Usha Vance is set to become the first sitting second lady in U.S. history to give birth while in office. While this is unprecedented for a second lady, there is historical precedent among first ladies. Frances Cleveland, wife of Grover Cleveland, gave birth to her daughter, Esther, inside the White House in 1893. Jacqueline Kennedy welcomed her third child, Patrick Bouvier Kennedy, in 1963; he was born prematurely and died two days later.

In their statement, the Vances described the pregnancy as both exciting and hectic, and expressed gratitude to the military doctors and medical staff supporting them. Usha Vance stepped away from her career as a prominent public lawyer after JD Vance assumed the vice presidency and has frequently appeared alongside him during his time in office.

Despite the personal milestone, official responsibilities continue. The Vances are scheduled to lead the U.S. delegation to the opening ceremony of the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, Italy, next month, highlighting the balance they are maintaining between public service and family life.
