Renowned TV anchor Iqrar Ul Hassan has announced the formation of a new political party, Pakistan Awam Raj Tehreek, saying the platform aims to bring political change and offer a new direction to the country.
He made the announcement during a press conference at the Lahore Press Club, where he clearly stated that he will not hold any position within the party or accept any government office. “I swear by Allah and His Prophet (PBUH) that I will not take any party or official post,” he said.
Iqrar said he believes the new party has the potential to challenge Pakistan’s traditional political culture and provide fresh hope to the public. He stressed that the initiative is not for personal gain or political advantage and added that party activities will soon begin across different parts of the country.
Describing Pakistan Awam Raj Tehreek as a people-driven and democratic platform, he said it would not be controlled by any single individual or family, and leadership would not be inherited. According to him, the party is meant to belong to ordinary citizens rather than political elites.
Iqrar’s political move comes after his earlier remarks in which he urged former prime minister Imran Khan and other senior politicians to step away from politics, arguing that they no longer represent the views of Generation Z voters. Those comments triggered strong criticism from PTI supporters, who accused him of supporting the establishment.
