US President Donald Trump has said he is considering a limited military strike on Iran after ordering a major naval buildup in the Middle East to increase pressure on Tehran over its nuclear programme.

Speaking to reporters in Paris, Trump said he was weighing his options when asked directly about the possibility of a limited strike. “The most I can say is that I am considering it,” he stated. Earlier, he had warned that “bad things” would happen if Iran failed to reach a deal within a set timeframe, initially giving 10 days and later extending it to 15.

The remarks came shortly after Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said a draft proposal for a possible agreement with Washington would be ready within days. The statement followed recent negotiations between US and Iranian officials in Geneva.

Araghchi said both sides had agreed to submit draft texts as the next step in the talks. He added that once the draft is finalized and approved by Iranian leadership, it would be handed to US negotiator Steve Witkoff. According to Araghchi, US officials have not demanded a complete halt to Iran’s uranium enrichment programme.

“We have not offered any suspension, and the US side has not asked for zero enrichment,” Araghchi said in an interview with US media. He explained that discussions are focused on ensuring Iran’s nuclear programme remains peaceful.

However, Trump and other senior US officials have repeatedly said that Iran must not be allowed to enrich uranium at any level. Western countries have long accused Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons, a claim Tehran denies. Iran maintains that its nuclear activities are for civilian purposes and insists on its right to enrichment under international law.

Iran is also seeking relief from economic sanctions that have severely impacted its economy. The country has faced rising economic hardship, leading to protests and internal unrest in recent months.

Tensions have increased alongside the diplomatic efforts. The United States has expanded its military presence in the region, while Iranian officials have warned of consequences if military action is taken. Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations said US bases and assets could become “legitimate targets” in the event of an attack.

Despite the strong rhetoric, Araghchi said there is no formal ultimatum in place. He emphasized that both sides are interested in reaching a quick agreement and that Iran has no reason to delay a deal that could ease sanctions.

The situation remains tense as diplomatic talks continue alongside military posturing, raising concerns about stability in the region.
