The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics said on Friday that weekly inflation in the country declined by 0.09 per cent.
According to the data released by the PBS, inflation every year stood at 2.83 per cent. During the past week, prices of 13 essential items increased, while 11 items recorded a decline. Prices of 27 items remained unchanged out of a total of 51 essential goods monitored.
The report showed a noticeable fall in vegetable prices. Potato prices dropped by 10.37 per cent, tomatoes by 9.64 per cent, and onions by 7.43 per cent. Sugar also became cheaper by 4.22 per cent, while gram lentils recorded a decline of up to 1.76 per cent.
On the other hand, prices of some items moved upward. Chilli powder became costlier by 6.26 per cent, while live broiler chicken prices increased by up to 5.29 per cent. Banana prices rose by 2.46 per cent, and electricity tariffs increased by up to 1.67 per cent during the week.
On an annual basis, the PBS said gas prices increased by 29.85 per cent, while wheat flour prices rose by up to 22.56 per cent.
The report also noted that compared to the same period last year, tomato prices fell sharply by 74.92 per cent, while potato prices declined by 49.79 per cent.
