Weekly Inflation Remains Close to 30% Over Previous Year

The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI)-based inflation fell by 0.07 percent as a result of lower prices for food items like onions (10.29 percent), chicken (8.57 percent), bananas (8.34 percent), and wheat flour (0.98 percent), as well as non-food items like petrol (3.40 percent) and diesel (2.64 percent). According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), for the week ending July 20, 2023.

The year-over-year trend shows an increase of 29.16 percent, which is primarily attributable to increases in the costs of bread (46.93 percent), wheat flour (126.82 percent), cigarettes (110.75 percent), gas for the first quarter (108.38 percent), tea lipton (98.99 percent), rice basmati broken (79.37 percent), rice irri-6/9 (74.14 percent), sugar (66.18 percent), potatoes (60.32 percent), gents sponge chappal, In contrast, prices for onions (down 35.27%), electricity for the first quarter (down 14.58%), pulse masoor (down 8.08%), LPG (down 1.06%), and 1 kg of vegetable ghee (down 0.51%) also decreased.

Out of 51 items, 30 (58.82 percent) saw price increases during the week, while 9 (1.75%) saw price decreases and 12 (2.35%) saw constant pricing.

Tomatoes (36.06 percent), chilli powder national 200 gm packet each (20.17 percent), sugar (4.77 percent), eggs (4.70 percent), gur (3.66 percent), shirting (2.64 percent), and garlic (2.31 percent) are a few of the items that saw an increase in their average prices over the previous week.

Onions (10.29%), chicken (8.57%), bananas (8.34%), fuel super (3.40%), hi-speed diesel (2.64%), and wheat flour bag 20 kg (0.98%) are a few of the commodities that saw a drop in their average costs during the week compared to the previous one.
