West Indies head coach Daren Sammy expressed frustration after the team remained stranded for several days due to international airspace disruptions linked to the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.

The West Indies cricket team has been unable to return home for more than 4 days as flight operations in parts of the Gulf region continue to be restricted. Airlines have been forced to reroute or suspend several flights due to security concerns and airspace closures in the Middle East.

The Caribbean side had been competing in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 in India but was eliminated after losing to the India national cricket team during the Super Eight stage.

After the team’s exit from the tournament, their travel plans were disrupted as airlines adjusted routes following rising tensions and military activity in the Gulf region.

Taking to the social media platform X, Sammy shared his frustration about the situation.

“I just wanna go home,” he wrote in a short post.

A few hours later, the former West Indies captain posted again, asking for clarity about the team’s travel arrangements.

“At least an update, tell us something. It’s been 5 days,” Sammy said.

Earlier, Cricket West Indies confirmed that the squad’s departure from India had been postponed because of the airspace restrictions affecting several international routes.

In a statement, the board said the restrictions were directly linked to security threats arising from the military situation in the Gulf region. The disruptions have affected multiple airlines and forced changes to scheduled flights.

Cricket West Indies added that the safety of players, coaching staff, and officials remains the top priority. The board said it is coordinating with the International Cricket Council, government authorities, and airline partners to arrange the earliest possible safe travel for the team and support staff.
