WhatsApp is testing a new feature that will allow users to manage storage directly from individual chats, making it easier to control how much space the app occupies on devices. The feature is currently available for selected users in the Android beta and iPhone TestFlight versions, according to WABetaInfo.

With millions of photos, videos, voice notes, and documents shared daily, many users struggle with phone storage filling up quickly. Group chats in particular are known to consume a large amount of space over time. Although WhatsApp already includes a storage management option, it is located deep within the app’s settings, requiring several steps to use.

The new update adds a “Manage Storage” option inside the contact or group info section. This allows users to directly view and delete large media files from specific chats without navigating out to the general storage menu. It is expected to show detailed data usage, including how much storage is taken up by photos, videos, voice messages, and documents in that chat.

This change will be helpful for users with devices that have limited storage, providing a quicker way to clear space without deleting entire conversations. It also makes it easier to manage large family or work group chats that often contain heavy media files.

The feature is still in testing, and WhatsApp has not confirmed a public release date. However, since it is being tested on both Android and iOS, it is likely to roll out in future app updates.

The update follows WhatsApp’s recent additions, such as chat filters, message editing tools, and improved pinned message options, reflecting the company’s continued effort to improve user experience and app performance.
