Meta has officially launched a dedicated WhatsApp app for the Apple Watch, giving users the ability to read messages, send voice notes, and manage chats directly from their wrist. Unlike the previous notification-based experience, the new app allows users to interact with WhatsApp without needing to take out their iPhone.
This rollout comes five months after WhatsApp was introduced on the iPad. The Apple Watch version now lets users view full chat threads, react with emojis, listen to incoming voice messages, and reply with voice notes. Users can also receive call alerts and scroll through extended chat history right on the watch screen.
The app is available starting today for Apple Watch Series 4 and newer models running watchOS 10 or later. To download it, users can install directly from the App Store on the watch or through the Watch app on the iPhone under the “My Watch” section.
Meta says the new experience is designed for moments when the phone is not easily accessible, like during workouts, commutes, or outdoor activities. For those with cellular-enabled Apple Watches, WhatsApp can be used even when the phone is not nearby.
This marks a significant update for Apple Watch users, as WhatsApp had remained one of the most requested apps on the platform for years. Meta has also confirmed that more features will be added in upcoming updates, which could include voice calling and expanded media support.
With this launch, staying connected through WhatsApp becomes easier and more convenient, all from the wrist.
