Wikipedia Unblocked in Pakistan After 3 Days
On the orders of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Wikipedia services have been reinstated in Pakistan, making the website once again accessible.
The PM had earlier in the day ordered the rapid restoration of Wikipedia in Pakistan based on the advice of a cabinet committee.

Wikipedia is a free, open-source, editable online encyclopedia that millions of people use as a starting point for basic knowledge.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) downgraded Wikipedia services in the nation on February 1 because offensive information was not blocked or removed. The telecom authority additionally issued a warning that if Wikipedia did not comply within 48 hours, the portal will be blocked in Pakistan.
Due to the refusal to delete sacrilegious content, Wikipedia services in Pakistan were subsequently stopped on February 3.
The Wikimedia Foundation urged Pakistan to promptly reopen access to Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects after the website was shut.
The Wikimedia Foundation stated that it considers knowledge access to be a fundamental human right. The largest online encyclopedia in the world, Wikipedia serves as the primary source of reliable information for millions of people.

According to its statement, it is a continuously expanding historical record that offers people from all backgrounds the chance to add to everyone’s understanding of their respective faith, tradition, and culture.
According to the Wikimedia Foundation, Pakistan, the world’s fifth most populated country, is unable to access the greatest free information repository because of a block of Wikipedia there. If it persists, everyone will lose access to the information, history, and culture of Pakistan

The decision to prohibit Wikipedia “betrays a deliberate lack of understanding of the role that social media play in allowing people to receive, fact-check, exchange, and respond to news and information,” according to the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP).
It requested that PTA immediately reverse its judgement after labelling the prohibition as ridiculous.
According to Amnesty International South Asia, Wikipedia’s bank is an unjustified limitation on the right to free expression and must be promptly and unconditionally removed.
Abolishing the Wikipedia prohibition in Pakistan was also demanded by a number of other tech organizations, civil society groups, and academics.
