WordPad no longer receives updates, and Microsoft plans to remove the word processor from a future version of Windows.
In its place, the tech giant will promote the use of Microsoft Word, a premium word processor that is distinguished for having a wider range of functions than the straightforward WordPad application that has been a part of Windows since the Windows 95 era.

Microsoft’s Friday statement is as follows:
WordPad won’t be included in a subsequent Windows release because it is no longer being updated. We advise using Windows Notepad for plain text files like.txt and Microsoft Word for rich text files like.doc and.rtf.
WordPad’s demise was announced just one day after Microsoft revealed improvements to Notepad, including autosave and tab restoration that happens automatically. The Windows Notepad programme had its first upgrade in a while in 2018, when Microsoft brought it back, and tab functionality was later added in the Windows 11 version.
WordPad, on the other hand, hasn’t gotten the same attention. With Windows 7, the word processor received an update that included the Ribbon UI, although Windows 8 only saw modest changes after a brief revamp.

WordPad will no longer be supported entirely in a future version of Windows, according to a decision reached by Microsoft. This modification is expected to take effect in the planned Windows 12 release, which is targeted for 2024. It is anticipated that this next edition will include lots of AI-driven features.
