Work Begins on Indonesia’s Floating Solar Power Plant
Masdar, one of the world’s leading renewable energy businesses, has announced that financial close has been reached and building has commenced on the Cirata Floating Photovoltaic Power Plant project in Indonesia.

The 145-megawatt (ac) facility is being developed by PT. Pembangkitan Jawa Bali Masdar Solar Energi (PMSE), a joint venture between Masdar and PT PJBI, with commercial operation anticipated to commence in the fourth quarter of 2022.
The plant will be the largest of its kind in Southeast Asia and one of the largest in the world. It is being constructed on the Cirata reservoir in the province of West Java. It will generate enough electricity to power 50,000 homes, offset 214,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions, and create up to 800 jobs.
Throughout the duration of the project’s development, Masdar has implemented a number of social programs aimed at increasing awareness of sustainability issues and fostering more community engagement.

Under its Electricity Infrastructure Acceleration Programme, Indonesia, the biggest archipelago nation in the world, aims to have 23 percent of its energy mix come from renewables by 2025. According to a recent news release, the government intends to boost the share of renewable energy in its 2021-2030 national electricity plan to at least 48 percent from 30 percent in its previous plan.
