Work on KCR to Start from September
According to press reports, Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Asad Umar indicated in Islamabad that construction on the long-delayed 43-kilometer Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) will begin in September.

In order to save money and time, the minister authorized the Railway Ministry to coordinate with the Public Private Partnership Authority (P3A) to simultaneously strategize and work on PPP components of the KCR project. According to the specifics, the KCR project will feature 15 stops and electric trains that are favorable to the environment.
The meeting was informed that the project is on track to be completed within the allotted timeframe. In addition, Minister Umar indicated that the 50-kilometer Freight Corridor project between Keamari/KPT and Pipri Marshalling will soon commence.

The project is anticipated to handle forty percent of intercontinental freight. Previously, the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) predicted that the project will cost approximately USD 2.6 billion in 2020.
