Pakistan’s women’s futsal team recorded their first victory at the SAFF Women’s Futsal Championship with an impressive 3–2 win over Sri Lanka on January 15 in Bangkok, bouncing back strongly after a hard-fought 1–1 draw against Bhutan in their opening match.
The victory was driven by a sensational hat-trick from Azwa Chaudhry, whose clinical finishing proved decisive against a determined Sri Lankan side. Her standout performance sealed the result and marked a historic milestone for Pakistan, as it was the team’s first-ever win in the SAFF Women’s Futsal Championship.
Speaking after the match, Azwa Chaudhry thanked the fans for their support and praised her teammates for their collective effort, emphasizing the importance of teamwork in achieving the breakthrough result.
Pakistan now faces a demanding group-stage schedule. They will play the Maldives on January 17, followed by a highly anticipated clash against arch-rivals India on January 19. The team will then face Nepal on January 21 before concluding their group matches against Bangladesh on January 23.
While the women’s team celebrated a landmark victory, Pakistan’s men’s side had a difficult start, suffering a 7–1 defeat against the Maldives. They will look to recover when they face Bhutan on January 16.
With confidence boosted by a historic win, Pakistan’s women will aim to carry the momentum forward and make a deeper impact as the championship progresses.
