YouTube has launched a voluntary exit program for employees in the United States as the company undergoes a major internal restructuring. The decision was announced in a memo from CEO Neal Mohan on Wednesday.
According to the memo, YouTube will now operate with three main product divisions. The Subscription Products division will oversee YouTube Music, YouTube Premium, and the platform’s OTT offerings. The Viewer Products division will manage user experience across the main app, YouTube Kids, Learning, and Trust & Safety. The third division, Creator & Community Products, will focus on supporting creators and strengthening platform engagement.
The company clarified that no positions are being eliminated and that the exit program is optional. It is meant to give employees the choice to leave with a severance package if they prefer, instead of YouTube enforcing workforce cuts.
The announcement comes as Alphabet released its latest quarterly earnings report, showing strong growth. YouTube’s advertising revenue reached $10.26 billion in the third quarter, marking a 15% increase compared to last year. This steady revenue performance indicates that the platform continues to grow even as it adjusts internally.
Industry analysts believe the restructuring aims to make YouTube more flexible and capable of responding quickly to changing trends in viewer behavior and creator needs.
Employees who choose to participate in the voluntary exit program will receive severance benefits, though the company has not publicly shared the details. The newly organized product teams are expected to begin implementing changes in the months ahead.
