In a major setback ahead of the PSL X playoff race, Peshawar Zalmi will be without Australian batting talent Mitchell Owen, who has opted to participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL) instead of returning for the remainder of the Pakistan Super League. The 23-year-old, who was signed as a replacement for Glenn Maxwell by Punjab Kings, has decided to honor his IPL commitments amid overlapping schedules caused by political tensions between India and Pakistan.

The Pakistan Super League is set to resume on May 17, with Peshawar Zalmi still in contention for a playoff berth. However, the team now faces the challenge of filling the void left by Owen, whose PSL debut season showed promise despite inconsistency. Owen managed to score 102 runs across eight innings, boasting an explosive strike rate of 192.45 that showcased his potential as a game-changer in the middle order.

Zalmi, though, are not without backup. The franchise will turn to Abdul Samad and Najeebullah Zadran to step up in Owen’s absence. Both players bring experience and flair, and the team will rely on them heavily as the playoff race intensifies.

The clash between IPL and PSL schedules has highlighted the ongoing struggles of domestic T20 leagues competing for international stars. With multiple key overseas players opting for IPL commitments, the PSL finds itself navigating difficult waters just days ahead of its resumption.

Meanwhile, other franchises also face key absences. Lahore Qalandars are without Sikandar Raza, further complicating their playoff hopes. Quetta Gladiators look strong and could capitalize on the situation, while Islamabad United will hope new coaching strategies under Mike Hesson can halt their downward spiral.

As the PSL X restart approaches, fans are eagerly anticipating high-stakes matchups and thrilling cricket despite the external challenges. The league’s final stretch promises drama, excitement, and a fierce battle for the coveted title.
