President Asif Ali Zardari has directed all institutions to remain fully prepared as heavy rainfall is expected in Sindh in the coming days. He stressed that arrangements for relocating people to safe areas must be complete to prevent loss of life and damage from possible flooding.
The president urged provincial, district, and local authorities to stay alert, particularly in low-lying, coastal, and urban areas. He said that relief machinery and rescue teams should remain on standby at district and tehsil levels. He also called for continuous monitoring of water levels at Hub Dam and other reservoirs to avoid emergencies.
Zardari highlighted the need for public awareness campaigns and asked both the media and local administration to play an active role. Citizens were advised to take precautionary steps and follow government instructions for their safety.
According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), a rain system over India’s Gujarat and Rajasthan borders may bring intermittent rainfall to Sindh, Balochistan, and southern Punjab until 10 September. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in the Koh-e-Sulaiman region and southern Punjab, raising fears of urban flooding in several cities of Sindh, Balochistan, and southern Punjab.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also instructed authorities to intensify rescue and relief efforts in flood-affected areas. He directed that timely assistance be ensured for displaced families. The prime minister added that a joint strategy with provinces is being developed to deal with the impacts of climate change. He said comprehensive planning is underway for high-risk areas, alongside measures for early warning systems and stronger, climate-resilient infrastructure.
