Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Monday that he is ready to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss possible steps toward peace. He also mentioned that the meeting could happen either directly between Ukraine and Russia or in a three-way format that would include US President Donald Trump.
Zelensky made these comments after holding talks at the White House, which he described as productive and the best meeting so far with President Trump. During the discussion, Zelensky presented maps showing which areas are under Ukraine’s control and stressed that Ukraine needs strong and long-term international security guarantees. He explained that Trump contacted Russian officials immediately after their meeting to start discussing possible diplomatic moves.
The Ukrainian president also said that Russia has shown openness to talks. According to him, Moscow is considering both direct discussions with Kyiv as well as the option of a trilateral summit with the United States. Zelensky made it clear that Ukraine is prepared to meet Putin at any time and will not give up its path toward peace, even after more than two years of war.
He also underlined that reliable international guarantees would be a key step to ending the war. The United States and European allies are expected to play a major role in setting those guarantees.
While progress has been made in the talks, Zelensky confirmed that no date has been fixed yet for a summit with Putin or a trilateral meeting with Trump. He closed his remarks by promising that Ukraine will keep working with its allies and remain open to negotiations that could eventually bring peace to the region.
This possible meeting between Zelensky, Putin, and Trump could mark an important step in international efforts to end the ongoing war, but many details are still to be decided.
