Zong has secured 5G spectrum in the latest auction conducted by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, marking a significant step toward introducing next-generation connectivity in Pakistan.

The telecom operator, a subsidiary of China Mobile, said the newly acquired spectrum will enable the rollout of 5G services and strengthen its existing 4G network. The expansion is expected to deliver faster speeds, improved network quality, and more reliable connectivity for millions of users who continue to rely on 4G services.

Company officials emphasized that the real value of 5G lies not just in obtaining a license but in delivering an improved digital experience for consumers, businesses, and industries.

Zong has invested heavily in network infrastructure and digital platforms over the years, positioning itself to launch what it describes as a seamless 5G experience nationwide. The company aims to support a wide range of emerging technologies and services through the new network.

With 5G connectivity, users are expected to experience improved performance in areas such as high-definition streaming, immersive entertainment, real-time gaming, cloud computing, smart home applications, and artificial intelligence-driven services.

The rollout will also support Zong’s broader digital ecosystem, including digital lifestyle platforms, cloud-based solutions, and enterprise services.

As the connectivity partner for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, the company said its 5G infrastructure will help support industrial modernization and digital transformation. Zong also highlighted its cloud services platform, which includes the Z SAIS Public Cloud and an intelligent cloud computing center that provides enterprise-level infrastructure and software services.

Zong currently operates one of Pakistan’s largest telecom infrastructures, with more than 17,000 cell sites and over 26,000 kilometers of fiber-optic network. The company serves more than 53 million subscribers nationwide, including over 44 million data users.

The operator has also introduced innovations such as OZGPT, described as Pakistan’s first telecom-scale AI assistant designed to support intelligent customer engagement across multiple languages and communication channels.

According to company spokesperson Nabila Yazdani, securing 5G spectrum represents a historic milestone for the company and the country.

She said the launch of Zong’s 5G services marks the beginning of a new phase of technological development in Pakistan, offering opportunities for innovation, improved connectivity, and digital growth.

Zong plans to roll out 5G services in phases, expanding coverage beyond initial launch cities over time. The company says the initiative is part of its broader commitment to supporting Pakistan’s transition to a digitally connected, technology-driven economy.
