911 Helpline to Serve as One-Stop Assistance Point: PM Khan
Islamabad: According to media sources on March 4, Prime Minister Imran Khan decided on March 2 that the Pakistan Emergency Helpline (PEHEL)-911 will serve as a single point of contact for anyone in need of emergency help.

While presiding over a PEHEL-911 review meeting, Prime Minister Khan emphasized that preserving people’s lives and property is the government’s first priority. The Prime Minister was informed that the helpline would offer all emergency services, including highway police, fire department, disaster recovery, medical treatment, and police assistance.
It was disclosed that 36 emergency lines have been consolidated; consumers will dial 911 and their calls would be routed to the relevant agency. The prime minister has instructed the appropriate authorities to ensure the hotline is functioning before the end of Ramadan this year.
The Interior Ministry and the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications are collaborating on the program. The National Information Technology Board (NITB) of the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications and the National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) will provide backend infrastructure and technical assistance to guarantee the project’s success.

The Ministry of the Interior will coordinate emergency services at both the provincial and federal levels.
