Acquisition of Land for Lawyers’ Housing Scheme Challenged
Islamabad: The landowners of a housing plan for attorneys have contested the proceedings of a committee meeting presided over by an active Supreme Court judge that authorized the compulsory purchase of their land.

Landowners Ahsan Imtiaz Bhatty, Yasar Khan Swati, and Irshad Swati filed a petition with the Islamabad High Court (IHC) against the decision of the committee formed by the Federal Government Employees Housing Authority (FGEHA) and presided over by Justice Maqbool Baqir for the development of the Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan (SCBAP) Housing Society.
The petition argued that the committee had chosen to apply Section 4 in order to acquire property for the housing scheme, which was contrary to the IHC’s land acquisition ruling.

According to the petition, the FGEHA, under the direction of the LSC, is forcibly seizing the land of the petitioners at nominal prices under Section 4, despite the fact that the land is not being taken for public use but for a real estate development.
The suit demanded that the court declare the LSC unlawful and its directives null and void.
