Acres of Barren Land Transformed into Urban Forest in Lyari
According to recent report, fifty acres of barren Lyari riverbed in Kemari district have been turned into an urban forest with thousands of native trees as part of an early-year forestation initiative in Karachi.

Under the first phase of the Lyari urban forest project, implemented by the forest department, 73,500 trees have blossomed on both banks of the riverbed between Shershah Bridge and Mauripur Bridge.
Maqsood Ahmed, district forest officer, stated that the initiative will soon be expanded to a bigger area. According to him, these trees will assist in regulating the monsoon flood, preventing sea intrusion, and improving the air quality in the region.

According to sources, the forest department has launched multiple plantation initiatives and grown thousands of native plants in Memon Goth, Model Colony, Shah Faisal Colony, Jinnah Gulistan-i-Jauhar, International Airport area, Bin Qasim town, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Park in Clifton, and along M-9 Motorway and National Highway.
Mr. Ahmed further disclosed that the department has planted an additional 320 thousand trees in various areas of Karachi since 2019.
