ADB Agrees $235 million to Transform Pakistan Roads
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has granted Pakistan $235 million to improve the country’s main highway.

According to an ADB statement, the project would focus on expanding the 222-kilometer Shikarpur-Rajanpur segment of the National Highway from two lanes to four.
The expansion is a component of Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Corridor 5, which connects the ports of Karachi and Gwadar in southern Pakistan to national and international economic centers in the north.
According to the Transport Specialist at ADB, the project will increase space on the busy highway segment that traverses the dense economic regions of Sindh and Punjab.

They also stated that the project will ensure road safety so that users can travel without incident. Additionally, they will construct bus stations and emergency response centers for the convenience of the public.
The first $180 million installment of the loan was released in September 2017 for the upgrading of 143 kilometers of highway in Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces.
