ADB Approves $5 Million for Pakistan’s Flood-Affected Areas
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has granted emergency aid amounting to $5 million with the objective of prioritizing operations in reducing inequalities and poverty, as well as advancing gender equity. Specifically, the ADB will support rural farm households in four districts within Nasirabad Division, which have canal-irrigated cropland.

This will entail providing 60,000 households with climate-resilient rice seeds, focusing on women farmers in the target areas. Moreover, the proposed financing will also supply durable farming toolkits to women in these areas, to assist them with farming activities, and protective footwear for safer rice transplanting. Additionally, measures will be implemented to boost community resilience against natural hazards.

In September and October 2022, the Pakistani government, in collaboration with various development partners such as the ADB, the European Union, the World Bank, United Nations agencies, and other organizations, conducted a post-disaster needs assessment. In December 2022, the government established the 2022 flood response framework, which provides the groundwork for an effective and coordinated plan for post-flood recovery and reconstruction.
