Amnesty Scheme to Regularize Illegal Properties in Lahore
Lahore: According to press reports, the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) plans to use the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) to introduce a new amnesty programme for the regularization of erroneous commercial buildings.

According to reports, the scheme’s main goal is to combat the expanding encroachment problem. In order to address challenges caused by growing population, sewerage issues, and traffic issues, the initiative has recruited the services of a consultant to survey commercial use of 18 frozen roads.
These frozen zones include Khayaban-e-Jinnah, Khayaban-e-Firdousi, Defence Road, and the section from Faisal Town to Akbar Chowk as well as an alternative route to Raiwind. The short-term consulting project has reportedly been given to National Engineering Services Pakistan (NESPAK) for PKR 2.9 million, per the sources.

The consulting company will be in charge of conducting surveys of the built-in structures, the capacity of the sewerage system, the annual commercial potential, and traffic counts. The LDA had previously implemented a similar plan to regularize a number of residential developments that had been built without the necessary documentation and regulatory authority’s NOC.
