GWADAR: The Balochistan government has directed relevant authorities to give greater priority to urban development work in Gwadar, with a focus on rehabilitation, water supply and municipal infrastructure.
The decision follows a review of development requirements in the port city. Officials discussed the Gwadar Development Authority’s ongoing Old Town Rehabilitation Project along with future funding needs for urban infrastructure.

The Gwadar Development Authority currently manages a large network of public infrastructure. This includes more than 250 kilometres of roads, around 31 kilometres of sewage drains and about 23 kilometres of rainwater drainage channels.
The authority is also responsible for parks, public facilities and other municipal infrastructure across the city. The government has directed officials to ensure that available resources are focused on priority urban needs.
The Old Town Rehabilitation Project is among the key schemes under review. The programme covers the construction and rehabilitation of roads, streets, bazaars, intersections and other civic facilities in the established parts of Gwadar.
Improved municipal infrastructure is important for residents, businesses and visitors. Reliable roads, water supply and drainage can also improve access and the practical use of developed areas.
However, the latest direction does not specify a new overall funding amount or a firm completion date for the planned work. The pace of implementation will therefore depend on resource allocation, project execution and further administrative decisions.

For property owners and investors in Gwadar, the development plan provides an indication of continued government attention to basic urban infrastructure. It does not, by itself, establish any change in property prices or investment returns.
People considering property in the city should assess infrastructure at the individual location. Water availability, road access, drainage and the status of nearby development work can vary between areas.
Further details on funding, timelines and progress are expected as the relevant authorities move ahead with the urban rehabilitation programme.
