Cabinet Proposes Land Auction – Al Sadat Marketing
Cabinet members in Islamabad have opposed the rescinding of a presidential order and urged that the prime land of the Carlton Hotel in Karachi be auctioned instead of being used to construct residences for federal employees.
The Housing and Works Division had sought cabinet approval to build residences for federal employees on land instead of auctioning it. They debated while the Federal Government Employees Housing Authority considered a change in the land use of the Carlton Hotel in Karachi (FGEHA).

The Housing and Works Division notified the cabinet that FGEHA was constituted by a parliamentary act and was operating under the Ministry of Housing & Works. FGEHA’s mission was to provide affordable housing to federal government employees and other defined populations on a not-for-profit, not-loss basis.
In 1979, the land parcel was passed to the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Minorities, then on June 2, 1982, it was transferred to the Ministry of Housing and Works with instructions to auction the land.

Members believed that it was necessary to investigate possibilities that would maximise the value of this prime land. It was suggested that a committee should deliberate and report to the cabinet at the next meeting the most legally viable solutions available.
