Capital to have Bus Service by February
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has agreed to begin a bus service in Islamabad within five months, making it possible for the city’s residents to realize their hopes of a reliable public transportation system.

The Development Working Group (DWP) of the municipal organization, which met under the leadership of CDA Chairman Amer Ali Ahmed, approved PC-Is for eight projects, including Islamabad Bus Service.
There is now no public bus service in the capital city, although the metro bus service operates on a single route. In the 1980s, the Government Transport Service (GTS) and a private firm, Varan, provided bus service; however, the service was abandoned after a number of years.
In the meantime, the DWP also approved a 40 million rupee proposal to construct 115 public toilets in various sites throughout the city.

It also authorized the purchase of sophisticated equipment to bolster the sanitation service at a cost of Rs 689 million. PC-I estimates that the project will be completed in six months.
Moreover, the CDA-DWP approved Rs 20 million for a Smart City feasibility study and agreed to launch YouTube and FM radio channels to improve communication between the municipal government and the general population.
