The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has approved the removal of 1,062 vacant and unnecessary positions as part of a wider cost-cutting and right-sizing plan aimed at improving efficiency and reducing financial pressure.

The decision was officially announced through a notification issued by the Human Resource Development Directorate on May 6, 2026, after approval during a CDA Board meeting held in late April.

According to the notification, the authority abolished two categories of vacant posts that were considered no longer necessary. These include 100 vacant Stenotypist positions in BPS-14 and 962 vacant Beldar positions in BPS-01.

Officials said the posts had remained vacant for a long time and were no longer suitable for the current operational and technological needs of the CDA.

The move is part of the federal government’s broader policy to reduce unnecessary spending, improve administrative efficiency, and lower the financial burden on the national treasury.

By removing inactive positions from its workforce structure, the CDA plans to better utilize resources and redirect funds toward important development and infrastructure projects in Islamabad.

The notification also stated that austerity measures were the main reason behind the reduction in staff positions.

To make the changes permanent, the CDA Board has directed amendments to the CDA Employees Service Regulation 1992. Officials said this will update the authority’s organizational structure and prevent future hiring for the abolished positions without fresh board approval.
