CDA to Normalize Businesses, Illegal Construction Activities
Islamabad: According to news reports, Ali Nawaz Awan, the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Capital Development Authority (CDA) Issues, suggested that the unlawful building activities in the capital be made legal in order to facilitate commercial operations.

These comments were given by the SAPM during a meeting with a senior management delegation from the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI). He added that CDA should explore all possibilities for re-registering non-compliant firms in the city.
Additionally, Mr. Awan gave the CDA instructions to compile a sector-by-sector list of irregularities in conjunction with the ICCI and provide deadlines to all the companies breaking protocol.

The meeting was also made aware of the detrimental effects of unlawful economic activity by the ICCI delegation, which was led by ICCI President Sardar Yasir Ilyas. The meeting also covered the potential negative effects of closing out non-compliant enterprises.
Mr. Illyas suggested that CDA take into account enforcing a commercial activity levy for companies operating on roofs and terraces.
While the ICCI delegation provided ideas to regularize commercial activity while at the same time not interfering with the expansion of the economy in the context of COVID-19, Awan stated that the authority will work within deadlines to boost economic activity in the capital.
