ISLAMABAD: The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) has reviewed and cleared five development schemes valued at approximately Rs60.259 billion, covering healthcare, education, road infrastructure, urban development and water supply.

The meeting was chaired by Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal. Three projects with a combined estimated cost of Rs11.714 billion were approved by the CDWP, while two larger schemes worth Rs48.545 billion were recommended to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC).

The approved projects include a Medical and Nursing College in Gilgit with an estimated cost of Rs4.924 billion and a National Defence University FCS Campus at Defence Complex Islamabad, valued at approximately Rs2.753 billion.

The CDWP also approved a 53.4-kilometre road from Zera to Daboori in District Orakzai, costing around Rs4.037 billion. The project is expected to strengthen transportation links and improve access for communities in the area.

Among the schemes forwarded to ECNEC is the revised Karachi Neighbourhood Improvement Project, estimated at Rs19.545 billion. The project focuses on urban infrastructure improvements and municipal services in selected parts of Karachi.

A major water supply proposal for Gwadar was also recommended for further approval. The scheme involves developing infrastructure to transport water from Mirani Dam to Gwadar, while authorities have also emphasised the need to examine wastewater treatment to address potential environmental concerns.

The latest CDWP decisions reflect the government’s focus on expanding essential infrastructure and public services while strengthening project evaluation and oversight.
