Youm-e-Takbeer Celebrations
Pakistan is commemorating Youm-e-Takbeer today. It marks the 26th anniversary of its 1998 nuclear tests. Celebrating the 26th Anniversary of Youm-e-Takbeer, Pakistan became the first Islamic country and the seventh country in the world to have nuclear weapons after these tests. These tests were conducted in retaliation to India’s nuclear tests.

Statements from National Leaders
While addressing the country, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that Youm-e-Takbeer symbolizes Pakistan’s determination and strength. In terms of strengthening the country’s defense capabilities, he described the day as a significant milestone. Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was honored for starting Pakistan’s nuclear program. On the other hand, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was commended for his bravery during the 1998 nuclear tests.
Along with other military authorities, General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Chairman, praised the day as a crucial victory that contributed to maintaining regional balance.

In his remarks, acting president Yusuf Raza Gilani said that Youm-e-Takbeer symbolizes the nation’s determination and dedication to peace and stability. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s position as a responsible nuclear power committed to resolving disputes amicably.
