Request to Fund Construction of Railway Line in Thar Coalfield
Media reports said that in Karachi, Chief Minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah proposed that the federal government support the construction of a 105-kilometer railway connection connecting Thar Coalfield in Islamkot and Chhor to deliver coal to the country’s core regions.

According to the information provided, CM Murad Ali Shah said that a private company had already done a feasibility assessment for the railway line. According to the information provided, the project will cost USD 160 million and rolling stock will cost USD 127 million.
In addition, the prime minister suggested executing the railway line project as part of the federal Public Sector Development Programme. According to reports, the Pakistan Railways administration has created the project’s PC-1 at a cost of PKR 130 billion. The federal government has not yet provided its consent.

In addition, CM Murad reminded meeting participants that the existing rail network between Chhor-Mirpurkhas-Hyderabad and Port Qasim will be restored for coal transport. Thar Coalfield Block-VI was also discussed during the conference. M/S Oracle Powers was reportedly working on an integrated project involving a coal mine, coal-to-gas (CtG), coal-to-liquid (CtL), and power station.
