Classification Planned to Ensure Preservation of Ex-fata Forests
Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to legally classify the tribal areas’ woods in order to improve their management along current scientific lines.

According to a release, a decision was reached to boost forest cover in the province and secure the preservation of forests. In addition, it was stated that the topic would be referred to the provincial cabinet for final approval.
Even after legal classification, forests in tribal districts will continue to belong to the local community, as they always have.
The provincial government would only ensure the preservation and improved forest management.
In addition to taking care of the local population’s needs for firewood and timber, he instructed the relevant authorities to interact with the local populace when developing forest management plans and to solicit their feedback.

The chief minister also instructed the relevant authorities to maintain a balance between the protection of forests and mineral activity in the merged regions, so that the livelihoods of locals involved in mineral activities would not be harmed.
