LAHORE: Construction of the Sukkur-Karachi Motorway is expected to begin next month, Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan has announced. The project is intended to strengthen road connectivity with Karachi Port and improve the movement of goods across the country.
Speaking to members of the business community at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Khan said the motorway would consist of three approved sections. Once developed, the route is expected to provide faster road access to Karachi Port, supporting freight transportation and commercial activity.

However, the minister did not announce a detailed construction schedule or specify when the entire motorway would become operational. Further information about the individual sections, project milestones and completion timeline has not been provided in the reported announcement.
During his address, Khan also discussed financial reforms at the National Highway Authority (NHA). He said the authority aimed to increase its annual revenue from Rs66 billion to Rs160 billion, while administrative expenses had been capped at Rs50 billion to direct more resources towards infrastructure development.

The minister highlighted the importance of major road projects in strengthening national connectivity and supporting economic activity. He also assured business representatives that the Ministry of Communications would continue engaging with the private sector to address issues affecting trade and transportation.
The proposed motorway could improve freight movement between Sukkur and Karachi, but its progress will depend on construction starting as announced and further details about implementation becoming available.
