Dedicated Interchange Needed for Sialkot Airport on Motorway
Sialkot: According to news reports, the management of Sialkot International Airport Limited (SIAL) has sought the government to connect Sialkot Airport directly to the Sambrial-Kharian motorway (M-11) via an interchange.

Notwithstanding, the National Highway Administration (NHA) has provided an alternative, cost-effective solution. According to NHA, the proposed interchange would cost PKR 550 million in addition to a redesign of the Sambrial-Kharian Motorway, which would further delay the completion of the project.
At a recent meeting, the NHA recommended a direct link road to the airport, which was accepted. Chairman of SIAL Khawaja Masood stated that management is attempting to obtain government clearance for such an extension and has given financial support to the government in this regard. Providing an interchange and direct access to the airport, according to him, will boost the local economy and promote connectivity.

According to the proposed M-11 map, the airfield is located less than 500 meters from the highway. For connectivity, two different ramps have been constructed on both sides of the highway near the airport.
Chairman Masood added that Chief Minister (CM) Usman Buzdar has already approved the re-carpeting of the Sialkot and Sambrial roundabouts, as well as the 6.5-kilometer route (from Sambrial dry port to Sialkot Airport) at a cost of PKR 300 million.
