Demarcation of Margalla Hills Forest Land Demanded to Avoid
Islamabad: According to news reports, people and nature enthusiasts have expressed worry over the illegal occupation and encroachment of forest area in Islamabad’s Margalla Hills National Park (MHNP). Citizens claim that the issue has arisen due to a lack of official intervention and a lack of land delineation inside the park.

In addition, residents and visitors of the area stated that despite recent developments and measures by the cabinet and federal agencies to preserve nature by launching an anti-encroachment campaign against illegal structures built on green lands, no practical measures had been taken to preserve the forest land.
Due to the lack of delineation of MNHP’s territory, the residents of the communities located within the park have grown and constructed illegal constructions, resulting in the clearing of jungle areas and the felling of trees that require 20 to 30 years to reach their full height.

A comparable circumstance was exposed in an official document. According to the paper, portions of the Margalla Hills National Park have been illegally inhabited in the vicinity of Jungle No. 1, Bhara Kahu, Mouza Manga, Salkhitar, 22 Mile, Chhatra, and Karlot.
